It has been a long history since the incandescent bulb is invented by Thomas Edison, and it can not be denied that the incandescent bulb is a milestone which brings human beings to the age of electricity. However, aside from the contribution that incandescent bulbs bring to us, they have led to serious environmental issues. Incandescent bulbs are not eco-friendly light bulbs, but they are still widely used all around the world. Someone may said now we have compact fluorescent lamps, they can replace incandescent bulbs, but are compact fluorescent lamps are more eco-friendly than incandescent bulbs? The answer is negative, compact fluorescent lamps can also cause environment pollutions especially when they are not properly disposed due to the toxic materials that they contain. CFLs can only be called energy saving bulbs when compared with incandescent bulbs.
Do full eco-friendly light bulbs exist? Yes, LED light bulbs are the new style of light bulbs which are 100% eco-friendly. Firstly, LED light bulbs with light emitting diodes as light source generate much less heat and carbon dioxide than conventional bulbs. LEDs are cold light source which does not emit light depending on transforming electricity to heat, so the heat and carbon emission of LED light bulbs can be ignored. Secondly, LED light bulbs do not emit UV or IR radiation which can cause light pollution and do harm to human beings’ eyes. Thirdly, LED light bulbs are made from 100% recyclable materials which will not cause environment pollution after disposal. Conventional light bulbs contain toxic materials such as mercury and lead which can cause serious environmental issues once they are not properly disposed.
The global warming issue has become more and more serious, but no solution has been concluded. As a matter of fact, you can contribute more to reduce the carbon emissions. Just go green with eco-friendly LED light bulbs, switching your old type light bulbs to LED light bulbs can greatly reduce the carbon emissions. LED light bulbs with traditional bases are quite easy to install, just screw off your old light bulbs and screw on new LED light bulbs, you will totally go green.
